Анотація

The article deals with expansionist rhetoric of the leaders of British political parties and prominent representatives of political circles of England. Its influence on shaping of public opinion is characterized.
The last third of the 19th century is a controversial period in British history. Increased competition on the international arena led the British Empire to the implementation of an active policy of colonial expansion. An urgent task was to promote the ideas of expansionism among different circles of British society. The realization of this task required different means of influence on mass consciousness. One of the most effective tools became the expression of expansionist ideas and their justification by the leaders of political parties and prominent representatives of political circles of Great Britain.
Both parties shared the idea of «special mission of the British Empire» and wanted its strengthening and expanding. Laws of election campaign forced to criticize the rival and to oppose his position. This explains the polemics of the parties on colonial issues that however didn’t deal with the main pillars of imperial policy.
It is proved that in the last third of the 19th century in Great Britain a deliberate propaganda of imperial values was conducted, the inevitability and expedience of colonial conquest in order to attract the general public to support the policy of expansion was promoted.
The idea of spreading and strengthening of its dominance over other regions was inherent to the ideology of British political parties. Expansionist rhetoric of the representatives of British political parties influenced on the formation of the English colonial ideology. With supporters of imperialism formed a favourable ideological and political climate in which politicians felt confident to obtain the necessary public support for their expansionist actions. So, of course, colonial ideology reinforced the desire of Great Britain to win new territories.

Осуществлен комплексный анализ экспансионистской риторики лидеров британских политических партий и известных представителей политических кругов Англии. Исследовано ее влияние на формирование английской колониальной идеологии (70–80-е годы XIX в.).
